As Dr. Connie Almeida shared last week during the webinar, there is an opportunity for Family Drug Courts to collaboratively intervene during the critical window of ages 0-3 and as described in the Zero-to-Three video below, “shape the architecture” of a child’s life. There is no greater investment than to focus on early childhood well-being, not only in the area of cognitive development, but in social-emotional growth as well. The importance of nurturing early relationships and seeing child well-being in the context of these relationships cannot be overstated. Of course, these have high implications as we serve children and families affected by substance use disorders in our FDCs. Please visit Zero-to-Three for more resources and information on this important focus area.
